New Zealand straddles the tectonic plate boundary of the Pacific and Australian plates. It is because of this that New Zealand is seismically active and home to a number of active and dormant volcanoes. EruptNZ retrieves the volcano alert status for each of New Zealands volcanoes from the Geonet website. The alert status is a number from 0 to 5 and gives an indication of the current level of activity of that volcano, as defined by Geonet. 0 is described as the dormant or quiescent state while 5 is large hazardous eruption in progress. Selecting a volcano will display a map location of it.

EruptNZ is a useful tool for travellers to New Zealand and for the many New Zealanders who live near or on a volcano.
